GENTLE STRANGER GREAT DESOLATION

Gentle Stranger are a group of incredibly talented multi-instrumentalists residing in South London, who's limitless approach to writing music makes them almost indescribable. Today the continually intriguing ensemble have announced a new album via left-field MOSHI MOSHI offshoot PRAH Recordings. Following last year's Love and Unlearn and a subsequent remix album Loved and Unlearnt, their new full length project goes by the ghostly title Phantom Thoroughfare. Due to arrive on the 10th of September, the album cycle ensues with its expectedly eclectic lead track 'Great Desolation'. Somehow managing to play, drums, guitar, bass, trombone, flute and a couple of kazoos within the space of a couple of minutes, contrary to its title, 'Great Desolation' is a surprisingly upbeat little number. Already sporting bags of personality, the track is accompanied by a fantastic video shot by Jos Nyreen, which features the band alongside a spectacular skeleton kite man of sorts. The band explain: "We trekked up to Cracken Edge to ‘rock out’ in the rubble of an old flagstone quarry. It’s where some of the paving stones around central London originate from. The lyrics were written whilst walking along these deserted streets in the height of lockdown last year, so we went back up north to follow it back to the source." Check it out here now. -Holly Mullineaux
